Haaland Triple Captain GW7: Use it or save it? PL Gameweek cover with a captain chip and pitch illustration.

We would use Triple Captain on Haaland against Ipswich, provided we were confident he would start. City’s latest update confirms a squad place but leaves a rest risk, so that minutes judgment is still open.

Haaland at home to a promoted side is the sort of fixture worth saving a chip for. The awkward part is the timing: the Ipswich game falls between two Champions League games. That deserves attention, but a busy schedule alone would not talk us out of it.

Why this fixture appeals

Haaland has six goals from six league starts, with 529 minutes played. At £15.7m, he is an expensive player to own without regularly captaining him, and this is one of the fixtures that makes the investment attractive. Official FPL record.

He scored in City’s 3–0 win at Liverpool, came off after 80 minutes and was pictured in training on 13 October. Those were encouraging signs before the midweek match. City’s match report, training update.

The Anfield scoreline does need some context. Roy Keane praised City’s quality on Sky Sports while also pointing to the red card and Doku’s impact. It was a good win, but we would not bank on another 3–0. Haaland’s run of starts and the Ipswich fixture matter more to our decision. Sky’s report and analysis.

Former FPL champion Ben Crabtree had already picked out this fixture for Triple Captain in the Premier League’s 14 September expert panel. The attraction was there well before the Liverpool result. Crabtree’s chip plan.

Check minutes after PSG before committing

City hosted PSG on Wednesday 14 October and now host Ipswich on Saturday 17 October and AEK Athens on Tuesday 20 October. At least all three are at home, but there are only three days between games. City’s fixtures.

Fantasy Football Scout’s Rocky7 identified GW7 as the biggest potential rotation risk for City in his 12 October schedule analysis. He also suggested Haaland could be rested against AEK instead. Both seem plausible; the schedule does not tell us when Enzo Maresca will choose to manage his minutes. Scout’s rotation analysis.

Haaland played the full match and scored twice in City’s 2–4 defeat by PSG on 14 October. City’s 16 October update confirms he will be in the Ipswich squad, but Maresca says he will need rest at some point without specifying which game. A squad place does not confirm a start or secure minutes. PSG match report, City’s latest update.

We can accept an early substitution against Ipswich. A credible concern that he might not start, or would be playing through a fitness issue, is a much better reason to save the chip.

What you gain by using it now

If you already own Haaland and would captain him anyway, Triple Captain makes his points count three times rather than twice. It is that extra return you are weighing against a later opportunity. Official chip rules.

If Haaland is fit and likely to start, we like this opportunity enough to use it. Waiting for a fixture with no doubts at all can mean passing up several good ones.

Your other plans still come first. Only one chip can be played each Gameweek, so you cannot combine Triple Captain with a GW7 Wildcard or Bench Boost. If another chip would do more for your squad this week, save Triple Captain. 2026/27 chip rules.

There are later options if you save

Saka has Hull at home in GW10, and Haaland gets the same home fixture in GW16. Chelsea visit Coventry in GW17 and Ipswich in GW18, with Palmer and João Pedro among The Scout’s suggested alternatives. Those options make it easier to save the chip without feeling that GW7 is your only chance. Official fixtures, The Scout’s alternatives.

There is a limit to how long you can wait. The first-half chip must be used before the GW19 deadline. A separate set arrives for the second half, so this chip cannot be kept for a spring Double Gameweek. 2026/27 rules.

Our plan would be to use it if we were confident Haaland would start; City’s latest update leaves that question open. Make the call before Saturday 17 October at 10:00 UTC / 11:00 BST, the GW7 deadline. Official deadline.
