Every FPL squad needs balance. Spend big on the stars, and you need cheaper players who can still earn their place. Get those picks right and you free up money for upgrades elsewhere. Get them wrong and a bargain can quickly become your next transfer problem.
So which midfielders under £6.0m are worth considering for Gameweeks 6–10? Whether you’re building a Wildcard squad, replacing an underperformer or making room for a premium signing, this guide compares six candidates on playing time, fixtures and attacking involvement—and flags the risks behind the price tag.
The aim is to help you choose a player who fits your plan: a dependable starter, a higher-upside punt or affordable cover when your first XI needs it.
Every player below costs strictly less than £6.0m at our 4 October check. The figures cover the opening five Gameweeks of 2026/27. Gameweek 6's deadline is Saturday 10 October at 11:00 BST, so there is still time for team news to change. Official GW6 deadline
The six-player shortlist
All six have started five league matches. xGI means expected goals plus expected assists: it describes the chances a player has had or created, rather than promising future returns. DC points below are calculated match by match from the official defensive-contribution totals: midfielders earn two points when they reach 12 qualifying actions in a match. Official scoring explanation
| Player | Price | Starts / minutes | FPL points | Goals + assists | xGI | DC points |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Josh King, Fulham | £5.5m | 5 / 425 | 24 | 2 + 0 | 2.00 | 0 |
| Pascal Groß, Brighton | £5.9m | 5 / 450 | 47 | 3 + 4 | 2.63 | 0 |
| Enzo Le Fée, Sunderland | £5.7m | 5 / 438 | 18 | 1 + 1 | 3.40 | 0 |
| Vitaly Janelt, Brentford | £5.0m | 5 / 450 | 28 | 2 + 0 | 0.97 | 6 |
| Mohamed Belloumi, Hull City | £5.1m | 5 / 394 | 31 | 2 + 2 | 1.15 | 2 |
| Diego Gómez, Brighton | £5.0m | 5 / 433 | 24 | 0 + 3 | 1.57 | 2 |

Josh King is our fixture-first pick
GW6–10: Ipswich (A), Hull (H), Coventry (A), Aston Villa (A), Newcastle (H).
King combines a £5.5m price with the most inviting opening three fixtures here. Fulham face all three promoted clubs, each rated two on FPL's five-point difficulty scale. The Premier League's 29 September analysis also records 11 shots inside the box for King, alongside two big chances. That gives the fixture argument some attacking evidence behind it. Official Fulham analysis
His 425 minutes and two goals make him a reasonable fourth or fifth midfielder to start during this run. There is one playing-time caveat: he came off after 76 and 79 minutes in his last two league appearances. We would buy him for the opportunity ahead, with the expectation that some starts may stop short of 90 minutes.
Pascal Groß has the strongest returns, with harder matches ahead
GW6–10: Sunderland (A), Crystal Palace (H), Liverpool (A), Manchester City (A), Brentford (H).
Groß's 47 points, three goals and four FPL assists lead this group. He has completed every league minute, and the official feed lists him first for Brighton's penalties, direct free-kicks and corners/indirect free-kicks. His £5.9m price still qualifies, following the rise confirmed on 4 October. Official price update
There are reasons to resist buying solely because of his points total. Seven attacking returns have come alongside 2.63 xGI, and Liverpool and City away arrive back to back. Brighton also face seven matches in 21 days across competitions, with returning players adding competition for minutes. Official Brighton assessment
Our view: a defensible hold and an option if you value set-pieces, but King gets the nod for a fresh five-week purchase. Have cover for Groß in GW8–9.
Enzo Le Fée is the attacking alternative
GW6–10: Brighton (H), Bournemouth (A), Leeds (H), Coventry (A), Chelsea (H).
Le Fée has the highest xGI of these six at 3.40, split between 2.06 expected goals and 1.34 expected assists. His 18 points are less eye-catching, partly because he missed a penalty against Arsenal in GW4. Official match history
Be careful with the penalty argument. He has taken penalties this season, but the current FPL feed places him second in Sunderland's penalty order. We would not buy him on the assumption that every future spot-kick is his. Sunderland's next four fixtures make him worth considering if you favour his attacking involvement; review the role again before Chelsea in GW10.
Vitaly Janelt offers useful depth at £5.0m
GW6–10: Aston Villa (A), Liverpool (H), Hull (A), Nottingham Forest (H), Brighton (A).
Janelt's 450 minutes and six DC points give him a different appeal. He reached the 12-action threshold in three of his five matches, compared with none for King, Groß or Le Fée. His two goals have come from 0.53 xG, so we would put less weight on repeating that scoring rate. Official match history
He is our £5.0m choice for managers who want a fifth midfielder they can use when needed. Hull in GW8 is the most attractive attacking fixture in this sequence. Three yellow cards are another reason to keep checking his status; neither 90 minutes nor DC points are guaranteed each week.
Mohamed Belloumi is a short-run option
GW6–10: Everton (H), Fulham (A), Brentford (H), Ipswich (H), Arsenal (A).
Belloumi's 31 points include two goals, two assists and one DC return. The first four fixtures contain three home matches, giving him a plausible place in a rotation plan. Arsenal away in GW10 is the obvious point to reassess or bench him. Official fixture data
The caution is his 1.15 xGI and 394 minutes: both are lower than the headline returns might suggest. His starts have lasted 90, 82, 81, 59 and 82 minutes. At £5.1m he is affordable, but we would choose him only with a clear plan for when he plays in your team.
Diego Gómez saves money on Brighton
GW6–10: Sunderland (A), Crystal Palace (H), Liverpool (A), Manchester City (A), Brentford (H).
Gómez costs £0.9m less than Groß and has delivered three assists across 433 minutes. He also has ten shots inside the box over GW1–5, according to the Premier League's Brighton analysis, despite having yet to score. Official Brighton assessment
That makes him an attacking alternative if £5.0m is your ceiling. The difficult GW8–9 pairing and Brighton's congested calendar still apply. We would avoid doubling up on these two budget midfielders unless your bench can handle those fixtures and possible rotation.
Three choices for three squad needs
- A new starter for GW6–10: King. His first three opponents make him our preferred fixture-led purchase.
- An existing Groß owner: consider holding. His role remains appealing, provided you can manage the tougher fixtures.
- A £5.0m fifth midfielder: Janelt. His minutes and DC record make him useful cover; choose Gómez instead if you prefer more attacking involvement.
All six were listed as available, with empty injury-news fields, in FPL at our check. That is a snapshot, not a fitness guarantee. The international window runs through 6 October: review club updates and FPL flags after players return, before committing a transfer. Official international calendar
If a move needs a points hit, compare the outgoing player's next fixtures with your replacement using the FPL Transfer Hit Calculator. Check FPL Price Changes before confirming affordability, especially with Groß only £0.1m below this article's cutoff. Price pressure alone is a weak reason to rush past team news.
Fixture sequences and difficulty ratings come from the official FPL fixture feed. Prices and availability can change; recommendations are PLGameweek's editorial judgment rather than guaranteed points forecasts.
