Update — 24 October 2026: BBC reports that Saka could be sidelined for around six to eight weeks, although his final recovery timeline has not been confirmed. Further scans and specialist advice are still needed. BBC report, 23 October

The GW8 deadline has passed (23 October, 17:30 UTC / 18:30 BST). This update is for decisions after that deadline; transfers made now cannot change your GW8 team. Prioritise assessing replacements for the coming gameweeks, without assuming a fixed return gameweek.

Historical data checks: The prices, FPL flags and fixtures below are retained from 22 October 2026 at 06:01 UTC (07:01 BST); they have not been refreshed for this injury-news update. GW7 match records were checked at 02:17 UTC and remain historical results. Check current prices and availability before your next transfer.

If you own Bukayo Saka, prioritise assessing replacements for the coming gameweeks. The reported six-to-eight-week risk makes this more than a short-term bench-cover decision, although it is not a confirmed recovery schedule. Use your next available transfer, budget and the replacement’s expected minutes to decide when to act.

The GW8 deadline was Friday 23 October, 18:30 BST — Saturday 24 October, 01:30 SGT. It has now passed; the transfer advice here applies to subsequent decisions. Official FPL data

Our shortlist is Palmer if you want to stay in the premium price bracket, Mbeumo for stronger recent league-minutes evidence, and Foden or Neto if releasing funds is part of the plan. Eze and Madueke are watchlist options, not automatic replacements.

Latest injury report and what remains unconfirmed

At the retained 22 October check, Saka cost £9.6m and was flagged “Thigh injury - 50% chance of playing” in FPL. That historical flag predates the later BBC report. He played 90 minutes for three points in GW7, but that performance predates the current flag. FPL player data · Saka’s gameweek history

BBC reports an initial expectation of at least six weeks, potentially longer, with around six to eight weeks the reported range. Arteta still needs scans and specialist advice; there is no confirmed final recovery timeline. Do not convert the report into a guaranteed return date or gameweek. The earlier FPL 50% label was not a precise medical probability.

Assess available replacements now, while continuing to check Arsenal’s medical and selection updates. The reported length of absence strengthens the case for replacing Saka; further information should guide timing and any later buy-back, rather than assuming a specific comeback round.

Hold, wait or sell: the decision for your squad

Your situationOur approach
You have a credible first substitute and no urgent budget problemAssess a replacement for the coming gameweeks; bench cover gives you time to compare options, rather than making a long hold the default.
Planning around the reported six-to-eight-week riskPrioritise a suitable replacement, especially with a free transfer, while recognising that the final timeline is unconfirmed.
Later medical news materially changes the expected absenceReassess the plan using the updated evidence; do not assume the current reported range is fixed.
You cannot field a credible XI without replacing himPrioritise an available replacement with convincing minutes evidence.
Selling requires a hit and your bench can playBe more demanding about the case for selling. A possible price fall alone is weak justification.

With GW8 locked, compare replacements for the next deadline and beyond. A manager with bench cover can take more time over the choice than a manager carrying several absences, but the reported longer absence makes active replacement planning the priority.

Holding also has a risk: a short substitute appearance can prevent your first substitute coming on. Do not build the decision around the assumption that Saka either starts and plays 90 minutes or stays out completely.

Arsenal’s next fixtures: do not decide on Everton alone

The original fixture snapshot lists Everton at home in GW8, Liverpool away in GW9 and Hull City at home in GW10. GW8 is now locked. Assess subsequent fixtures over several weeks; the reported absence means Hull in GW10 should not be treated as a target return for Saka. Official FPL fixtures

The useful question is whether your replacement improves your squad over the coming gameweeks. Include a possible later buy-back cost, but leave its timing open until the recovery picture is clearer.

Saka replacements: which route fits?

All four options below are FPL midfielders. The table retains 22 October purchase prices and the original GW8–10 fixture snapshot; GW8 can no longer be changed. Check current prices, selling value and remaining fixtures before acting.

Sources: prices and positions, fixtures, and official GW7 histories for Palmer, Mbeumo, Foden and Neto.

Palmer: keep the premium slot

Palmer is the closest option here by price. He has started all seven league matches, giving him a stronger recent starting record than the cheaper City option. Choose this route if you want to maintain a premium midfield slot rather than redistribute the money.

Do not assume the move costs only £0.1m. That was the difference between their purchase prices at the 22 October check; current prices and your Saka selling price may differ.

Mbeumo: the strongest league-minutes record in this shortlist

Mbeumo has played all 630 available league minutes through GW7. That makes him the clearest minutes-led alternative among these four, though no historical record guarantees the next start.

He also freed money compared with Saka’s price in the original snapshot; check the current difference. This is the route to examine if you want both a regular starter and funds for another position, without making one big GW7 score the entire argument.

Foden: attractive price, unresolved rotation risk

Foden followed his nine-point GW7 with a hat-trick and an assist against AEK Athens. The European performance strengthens his case for consideration, but City made eight changes for that match. It does not confirm his GW8 starting place. Manchester City’s match report

His league record is four starts and 293 minutes. At £6.8m, he offers substantial flexibility, but buy him only if you accept the rotation risk and have a useful plan for the released funds. Avoid treating a Champions League hat-trick as a forecast for Aston Villa away.

Neto: cheaper Chelsea access, not Palmer at a discount

Neto’s 15-point GW7 and 90-minute appearance put him in the conversation. He has six league starts and 504 minutes this season, a larger minutes sample than Foden.

The appeal is his £6.5m price and what it enables elsewhere. He is not interchangeable with Palmer simply because they share the same fixtures. Assess the whole squad after the transfer, rather than buying last week’s highest score.

What about Eze or Madueke?

Both cost £6.2m, but neither has established a regular league-starting pattern this season: Eze has 130 minutes and one start; Madueke has 158 minutes and one start. Official FPL player data

Saka’s absence could create an opportunity. It does not tell us who will start, which position they will occupy or how long the opportunity will last. Keep both on the watchlist until Arsenal’s team news makes their roles clearer. Replacing an injury doubt with a selection doubt needs a deliberate reason, not merely a desire to retain Arsenal coverage.

Sell before a price change or wait for news?

First check your actual Saka selling price in FPL. Price rises are not passed on in full when selling, so his £9.6m purchase price is not necessarily your available budget. Official FPL rules

Our selling-price calculator can help you check the arithmetic. Use the price-change tracker to monitor risk, not as confirmation that a change will happen.

An early move is more defensible if you already want the replacement for several weeks and a price change would make the transfer unaffordable. Otherwise, waiting buys information. Protecting a small amount of team value is less useful if you then need another transfer to reverse the decision.

Updated verdict: prioritise assessing a Saka replacement for the coming gameweeks in light of the BBC report. Use bench cover, transfer costs and a multi-week plan to choose the timing; the final recovery timeline remains unconfirmed, and GW8 is already locked. Mbeumo is the minutes-led option; Palmer preserves the premium slot; Foden and Neto offer cheaper routes with different risks. Eze and Madueke still need clearer role evidence.
